Welcome to The Digital Staffroom.

My name is David Nanton and I am a former newspaper journalist who transitioned to the IT sector 27 years ago. I have dedicated most of my IT career to supporting schools in the UK with experience across both the State and independent sectors. This has given me a broad perspective on the challenges and triumphs of educational technology. I am also the author of Beyond Compliance: Practical Cybersecurity for Schools.

Technology in education is often noisy, expensive, and confusing. I have started this blog to try and bring some quiet to the noise, with pragmatic analysis on the news that actually matters to UK schools: from cybersecurity threats and DfE policy shifts to the reality of digital transformation.
